The left’s propaganda war against Christians has taken an astonishing turn with the May issue of Harper’s Magazine. In a cover story titled, “The Christian Right’s War on America,” Harper’s starkly accuses millions of devout Christians of plotting to establish a “Dominionist” theocracy in America. The once-respectable journal suggests that stopping these Dominionists will require extraordinary measures on the part of the left – measures that will involve putting aside the “old polite rules of democracy.” (via Stanley Kurtz)

What is Dominionism anyway? National Review Online (NRO) contributing editor Stanley Kurtz explains that it is a fanatical sectarian creed which advocates putting to death heretics, blasphemers, adultresses, homosexuals, practitioners of the Black Arts and sundry other sorts of sinners and non-believers.

See Kurtz’s two recent articles, “Dominionist Domination: The Left Runs with a Wild Theory” (NRO, May 2, 2005) and “Scary Stuff: There’s a Real Venom on the Left Against Conservative Christians” (NRO, April 28, 2005).

“There is, in fact, a fringe Christian group of `Dominionists’ or `Reconstructionists,’ who really would like to see an American theocracy, and a return to the death penalty for blasphemy, adultery, sodomy, and witchcraft,” writes Kurtz. However, he notes that, “The dystopian political program of this utterly marginal, extremist sect has absolutely no traction with anyone of significance.”

Soros to the Rescue

Kurtz’s dismissive analysis notwithstanding, leftists now accuse everyone from Pat Robertson to George W. Bush of harboring a secret allegiance to Dominionism. In the face of this threat, leftwing activists are mobilizing for mass resistance, inspired in part by the heroic example of – who else? – radical billionaire George Soros.

“Only one or two brave souls like George Soros have made massive contributions to combat the think tanks and the organized political machine of the Dominionists,” writes Katherine Yurica in an article posted to her online Yurica Report bearing the provocative title, “The Despoiling of America: How George W. Bush Became the Head of the New American Dominionist Church/State.” Stanley Kurtz comments:

“Yurica’s article is so wild-eyed and strange that it would barely be worth mentioning, were Yurica not a featured speaker at a recent conference called, `Examining the Real Agenda of the Religious Far Right.’ That conference, held this past weekend, was supported by the National Council of Churches, People for the American Way, The Nation, The Village Voice, and United Americans for Separation of Church and State.”

Kurtz continues:

“The notion that conservative Christians want to reinstitute slavery and rule by genocide is not just crazy, it’s downright dangerous. The most disturbing part of the Harper’s cover story (the one by Chris Hedges) was the attempt to link Christian conservatives with Hitler and fascism. Once we acknowledge the similarity between conservative Christians and fascists, Hedges appears to suggest, we can confront Christian evil by setting aside `the old polite rules of democracy.’ So wild conspiracy theories and visions of genocide are really excuses for the Left to disregard the rules of democracy and defeat conservative Christians – by any means necessary.”

Jeepers! This sounds like a job for Jews Against Anti-Christian Defamation (JAACD).

This is typical for liberalism; they accuse their enemies of being wild-eyed kooks because they are wild-eyed kooks. They accuse Christians of being Nazis because they are busy funding and supporting Holocaust deniers on the public dime; they think Jesus is a bad guy but have no problem with a murdering, pedophiliac, xenophobic, harem-owning Mohammed; the list of insane contradictions could easily fill a book. But in this ribald silliness, we see the Left’s death tremors. People say some crazy things when they are at death’s door, and these kind of statements seem uncannily similar to those of dying mental ward patients. The fantasias are similar in construction if not in content!

The real theocratic threat doesn’t come from a bunch of wacko Bible thumpers with delusions of grandeur like the Dominionists.

It comes from people trying to push “intelligent design” into science courses.

It comes from judges, like Antonin Scalia who believe that the US government derives its authority directly from God and not from “the consent of the governed”.

It comes from people who believe that a cloned blastocyst is a full human being.

I, for one, would sleep a lot better if the only threat to American freedom was the Dominionists, but alas, the threat is much more serious than that.

And I haven’t even gotten around to the Islamicists, the Eco-Nazis or the left wing of the Democratic Party, all of which pose greater threats than the the religious right.

  3. Rightminded says:

No Meyer, the real danger comes from people, who haven’t the foggiest notion of what the Constitution says, means, or the intentions of the ones who wrote it.

They just make things up to suppress, or inhibit their psychotic, childish fears.

Moreover, it’s the gospel of your religion, the Culture of Death that needs to be feared, so said Pope John Paul, as much as the nazis, and the communists.

Try sleeping in Cuba, North Korea, or any other country overwhelmed by ruling aetheists who believe they are Gods.

Anyone know where I can get the “I’m a Dominionist” t-shirt?
Also I thought we are the evil “Gentrificationists.” Damn. I had finally found the “I am a Gentrificationist” t-shirt – and those slick leftists go an change the label on me – again.
Finally – you know the lefties are getting close. That article in harpers mideast bazzar – is fairly accurate – if you subsitute “islamofacists” for “Christian” throughout.

Let’s analyze Bob’s words of wisdom, shall we?

—It comes from people trying to push “intelligent design” into science courses.

Here, Bob posits the old neo-Darwinist lie that similarity in structure MUST (MUST I TELL YOU) result from common ancestors. Alternate theories are disallowed. Science as a cult of power (instead of a search for truth) is nowhere more evidenced than in posts like his.

—-It comes from judges, like Antonin Scalia who believe that the US government derives its authority directly from God and not from “the consent of the governed”.

Scalia doesn’t say that. Now go read the Declaration of Independence again to understand where our rights come from. *Thumps him with a history book for good measure.*

—- It comes from people who believe that a cloned blastocyst is a full human being.

God save us all from the arrogance of scientists. You’d think that the world had learned from the Nazi doctors the foolishness of trying to play God, but apparently not.

  6. Bob Meyer says:

    russet shadows:

Not only did Scalia make that statement he repeated it several times so that he would not be misunderstood.

From van Orden v Perry regarding a public display of the Ten Commandments:

7 JUSTICE SCALIA: And when somebody goes by
    8 that monument, I don’t think they’re studying each
9 one of the commandments. It’s a symbol of the fact
10 that government comes — derives its authority from
11 God. And that is, it seems to me, an appropriate
12 symbol to be on State grounds.

That statement has only one interpretation.

As for the “neo-Darwinist lie” your ignorance of scientific principles matches your ignorance of law. Evolution is based on the principle of inheritance of characteristics, not on similarity of structures.

The Tasmanian marsupial wolf was structurally similar to the North American and European placental wolves but evolved completely separately. These two types of creatures have had no common ancestors for at least 50 million years and are considered to be unrelated species by biologists.

Every scientific discovery since Darwin has reinforced the theory of evolution. By comparison, creationism has been found to be wrong time and time again. It predicts nothing and explains nothing.

Supernatural ideas have no place in a science class.

As for the difference between a human being and a blastocyst:

A fertility clinic is on fire, you can save either one ten year old child or a container of one hundred frozen embryos. Which do you choose?

The man who saves the embryos and lets a living child burn to death is a monster.

  7. Rightminded says:

    Meyer states,

“A fertility clinic is on fire, you can save either one ten year old child or a container of one hundred frozen embryos. Which do you choose?

The man who saves the embryos and lets a living child burn to death is a monster.”.

    I think a more fitting question, that would minimize the effects of the world renown “Meyer’s Con” would be;

At what point, in this sacred process are you willing to assume the role of God, and murder a child in it’s earliest development?

PLEASE BE SPECIFIC, AND STATE YOUR REASON!

I will now answer your silly question.

Personally, I would grab the 10 year old, because the embryos would probably survive the fire in a reputable fertility clinic. Trying to get at them, and stuffing them in your pockets, Bob, would probably destroy them.

DO PEOPLE IN YOUR CIRCLES, ACTUALLY FALL FOR THIS MALARKEY?

  8. Bob Meyer says:

    rightminded:

The question I asked only serves to illustrate who the real advocates of the “Culture of Death” are.

When a collection of a few cells is held to be the equivalent of a human being then real, live human beings will end up dead.

Blastocysts don’t cure diseases, write concertos or mourn the death of loved ones. Human beings do.

Fetuses aren’t human beings, only potential human beings. The fetus may become a person, or a miscarriage, or be born dead.

As for when I accept murdering children the answer is that I don’t ever accept it. But a child is what a fetus may become, not what it is. A fetus is an appendage of the mother and as such, it is hers to dispose of as she chooses.

Prior to birth, it is a fetus. Upon birth, a fetus becomes a human being.

  9. Rightminded says:

“The question I asked only serves to illustrate who the real advocates of the “Culture of Death” are.”

What you have said above is outright weird, void of linear thinking, and logical thought.

I want to protect the child at every step of it’s development, and you would allow the mother to murder it, one minute before it’s birth.

A CLASSIC EXAMPLE OF TYRANNY, AND SLAVERY OF THE WOMB!
