It appears that George Soros’ Shadow Party has begun cranking its fundraising machinery into high gear, nearly a year and a half before the next national election.

Already, more than 80 leftwing millionaires and billionaires have pledged $1 million apiece to leftwing groups serving the Democrat cause, according to Thomas B. Edsall, writing in The Washington Post of August 7. Edsall does not say in his article whether or not the $80 million in pledges will come from George Soros’ leftwing donor network the “Phoenix Group, but we see between the lines some hints that it may.

For instance, in his article, Edsall explains that the $80 million in donations will first pass through something called the Democracy Alliance, run by one Rob Stein, an investment banker who formerly served as an aide to Clinton Commerce Secretary Ron Brown.  After receiving the money from donors, Stein will then distribute it to various radical groups as needed.

This tells us something. We know, from an April 20 report by Hans Nichols in The Hill, that the stated purpose of Stein’s Democracy Alliance is to collect money from Phoenix Group donors and disburse it to other leftwing groups.

We also know, from the same source, that the Phoenix Group boasted about 70 donors in April of this year, and that it was seeking to add more.

Finally, the figure of $1 million per donor which Edsall cites precisely matches the amount which George Soros is reportedly asking from his Phoenix Group.

According to a NewsMax.com article of April 20, Soros laid out a five-year fundraising plan for the Phoenix Group at an April meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona. Can it be mere coincidence that Mr. Edsall’s 80 leftwing donors are also following a five-year fundraising plan?

Edsall informs us that the 80-odd donors in his story have agreed to pony up $200,000 per year for the next five years, until they have given a grand total of $1 million per donor.

One million dollars per donor — just like the one million dollars per donor Soros is seeking from his Phoenix Group. Again, mere coincidence?

In the final analysis, readers must judge for themselves whether or not those 80 leftwing donors described in Edsall’s article are the same as the donors whom Soros has corralled into his Phoenix Group. We think they are, but we can’t prove it.

The next time some Shadow Party operative rings up Mr. Edsall at The Washington Post to boast of some fundraising feat, we urge Mr. Edsall to probe a little more deeply and to ask his source whether or not said funds are coming from Soros’ Phoenix Group.

Such candor would greatly increase our confidence in the Phoenix Group’s much-vaunted commitment to “transparency.”

AUTHOR’S NOTE: The above post was re-edited on September 26, 2005 to reflect more fully the deductive process which led me to identify Mr. Edsall’s “80 wealthy liberals” with George Soros’ Phoenix Group. The original text was shorter, simpler and better, in my opinion, but a certain prominent journalist complained of difficulty following my argument and publicly questioned my conclusions (using the pseudonym “Clodia Pulcher” — see comments below). For the benefit of this worthy colleague, I rewrote my post, explaining my reasoning process, step by step, in painstaking detail. See the original text here.

In a way it is disheartening to see how much moola these leftist dingbats have accumulated – the Garden of Eden myth writ large in otherwise good minds who think that this is the way to change the world for what they think is better… or is it just a naked power grab? Go figure.

  2. Richard Poe says:

dgene asks: “… or is it just a naked power grab?”

    The latter, I think.

  3. Sharikov says:

Who are the “80” (no doubt more)? What connections do they and or their companies have with say “Peoples Republic of China” or the “Kingdom of Saudi Arabia”, etc.? Of course large capital interests held in US corporations have no impact on how a business is run (or what it might do with its money); e.g. some major MsM outlets. More amazing is that the “traditional leftists”, who are no-doubt involved in the Soros combine and opposed to anything non-left, seem to ignore an even more dangerous, real, immediate and growing threat to them and their goals… as if they are in alliance with the very entity/ies which would destroy them (the leftists).

  4. Richard Poe says:

Sharikov writes: “…as if they are in alliance with the very entity/ies which would destroy them (the leftists).”

Yes, an alliance… an Unholy Alliance, in fact.

I still wait for the exposure of the trickery and gaming of the system that allowed Soros to screw the folks out of the billions he now uses to control them.

  6. Cornelius says:

Only the blind could miss the irony of the Left-wing rants decrying the “power of the wealthy” at the same time that they pony up for their hand-outs from millionaire benefactors.

Such is the paradox of life.

  7. djb says:

It blows me away to hear about people that have made millions and billions from capitalistic ventures in free market societies try to cut their own throats by supporting socialist anti-capitalistic anti-free market moonbats. What can they be thinking? Is there some form of dementia or insanity that affects people that have too much money?

  8. Marimba Man says:

The Freedom of the Constitution to OVERTHROW THE CONSTITUTION. Notice that they praise/support the likes of Castro. They visit “paradise” but I just can’t understand why they don’t live there. Why would they give up “paradise” for THE BIGGEST CAPITALIST HELLHOLE? SOROS AND HIS GANG ARE NOTHING BUT A CULT. Say “CULT” when dealing with the brainwashed. We all know that one cannot reason with a brainwashed person.

  9. Phillep says:

“… try to cut their own throats by supporting socialist anti-capitalistic anti-free market moonbats. What can they be thinking?”

Most of them are trying to monopolize their industries, using the left to destroy their competitors.

Offer the auditors 10% of any recovery.

  11. rightwingmac says:

I know how to stop the rich lefties from “taxing the rich” (which really = taxing the middle class and poor).
Just give them their way when they call for tax hikes, but make it conditional: they lose all their tax shelters and ACTUALLY PAY the rate they call for (i.e. Michael Moore and his call for a 70% tax rate).

The only people that want higher taxes are those that wont be paying them (be they rich folks with shelters, or poor folks on the dole) and taxfunded union hacks with absurdly fat pensions, benefits, and pay (be they govt employee or subsidized).

I say give em what they want and let the rest of us watch.
If we are going to redistribute wealth, let’s start with theirs.

Surely they’re willing to lead by example yes?
    LOL yea…

A lot of this sounds… well “moonbatty.”

Millionaires like the Phoenix Group don’t donate money in dribs and drabs like $200K a year as we saw in the 2004 election. Where did THAT piece of info come from?

“Substantial portions” of $80 million going to Brock? That is like hooking a premature baby’s capillary up to a firehose. How is he going to spend funds like this?

Let’s have a little more information on this Richard. NO ONE has cracked that Phoenix meeting yet. If you have.. more power to you… but let’s have the details.

  13. Richard Poe says:

Miss Pulcher writes: “Where did THAT piece of info come from? … Let’s have a little more information on this Richard. … let’s have the details.”

You’ll find all the relevant details in the links – exactly where one would expect to find source information for a blog entry.

Are you new to the Internet?

  14. Marimba Man says:

The Dem’s want all info from the beginning of time concerning Roberts. They want DIRT. Okay, let’s get all info on Hillary Clinton and her ties to Soros and Tides and other groups who aided the Marxist FMLN terrorists in El Salvador. Let’s also expose Bill and his history of being in the KGB front organization, the British Peace Council and his attending meetings of Communists. Why is this info not exposed? This is more important than writing by Roberts. The last I heard, the Presidency is higher up the ladder than a Judge.

  15. Clodia Pulcher says:

Richard… thanks for the encouragement and let’s not go all snotty.

When I saw the first two postings were circular… back to you and Moonbat and so were others, I mistakenly assumed the rest were and ovelooked the key post at the WP and the alternet posts.

So I will call Edsall… and see where he got it. What is MOST curious is that Edsall is NOT mentioning Soros is behind the whole thing and it is Soros’s plan, just as Richard points out. Soros clearly wants to use his money as the stone in “stone soup” and it is working.

The flaccid GOP is going to get killed in the fundraising department and Richard is one of the few people who understands this… including the Post’s Edsall from this report. Looks like Rosenberg was Edsall’s source.

I sent you an e-mail on this directly

  16. Richard Poe says:

Miss Pulcher writes: “…let’s not go all snotty.”

So sorry, Miss Pulcher. I’m afraid I mistook you for, um, well… a moonbat.

Miss Pulcher writes: “When I saw the first two postings were circular… back to you and Moonbat and so were others, I mistakenly assumed the rest were…”

    [sigh]

Actually, the links you saw were not “circular,” Miss Pulcher. They led to previous posts of mine where I had painstakingly, and with great effort, assembled a set of links pertaining to the particular topic in question.

Had I chosen only to link to a single external page, you would have missed all the other links. By linking to one of my previous posts, I gave you the opportunity to access not just one external link on the topic, but several.

I do this because I care about my readers, and want to provide them with the most complete access to relevant information that I possibly can.

Please tell me you understand. So many people make this same criticism, and I am about to go mad with frustration.

  17. Clodia Pulcher says:

    Richard–

Look… if you had advanced the story yourself, I wouldn’t have a problem with the way you stated it.

What you did was restate Tom Edsall’s WP story.

If your lead said, “A Washington Post story by Thomas Edsall has apparently pierced the secrecy around important decisions emerging from the Phoenix Group meeting of Democrat fat cats in April of this year… .”

Which would have highlighted the real value of your item perfectly. And it would have been a valuable “wake up” contribution, and in fact the principal point of your piece, that the cheese had (in the opinion of a decent MSM reporter) finally moved.”

“…to provide them with the most complete access to relevant information that I possibly can.”

How ’bout doing a better job of fronting the POINT of the information?

And of course I understand your references to previous work that you don’t need to restate is valuable indeed. I am on your side, for heaven’s sake.

I haven’t seen such flouncing and sighing since I snuck my brother into the Bona Dea. At least that young man from Verona got some poetry out of my ability to induce mood swings among the creative.

  18. Richard Poe says:

Miss Pulcher writes: “What you did was restate Tom Edsall’s WP story.”

    Really? How so?

I thought my point was quite different from Edsall’s. So did you, a couple of posts ago. Or so it seemed.

Miss Pulcher writes: “The flaccid GOP is going to get killed in the fundraising department.”

    LOL!

I am quite sure, that the GOP will have no problem with fundraising.

I beleieve that the GOP has at least as many millionaires, and billionaires, to keep up with the millionaires, and the billionaires of the Democrats.

The Democrats out spent the GOP, 2-1 in the last Presidential election, and a standing President, who’s approval rating was less than 50%, who had every media outlet in the country on the attack, with dishonest information, still managed to pull out a victory.

I love it when the left underestimates the right.

    It always backfires on them.

I think the GOP will be just fine in the “fundraising department”

The ones who have problems most, with “flaccid” things, are liberals, and they make medication for that now, so, in a sense, we are on an equal playing field.

    LOL!

    SHADOW PARTY RAISES $80 MILLION

More than 80 Radical Millionaires and Billionaires Pledge $1 Million Apiece to Fight Conservatives

Posted by Richard Poe @ Monday 8 August 2005, 7:57 am

Nearly a year and a half before the next national election, George Soros’ Shadow Party is already cranking its fundraising machinery into high gear.  More than 80 leftwing millionaires and billionaires associated with Soros’ Phoenix Group have pledged $1 million apiece. A substantial portion of the money will reportedly go to David Brock’s leftwing smear site MediaMatters.org.

The money will first pass through Rob Stein‘s Democracy Alliance, often described as a financial "clearinghouse" for the left.  The Democracy Alliance collects money from Phoenix Group donors and disburses it to various radical groups as needed.

In accordance with George Soros’ five-year-plan, the 80 donors who have made million-dollar pledges are each expected to pony up $200,000 per year between now and 2011 (via Raw Story).
