THE SEVEN LIES OF KATRINAGATE: Debunked by Richard Baehr of The American Thinker

The BBC has optimistically floated the term “Katrinagate,” in an effort to promote its view that the media-generated scandals surrounding Hurricane Katrina may ultimately succeed in doing to George W. Bush what Watergate did to Richard Nixon (hat tip, Andrew Walden). Inconveniently for the BBC and its soulmates in US media, their case against Bush rests exclusively on lies – seven lies, to be exact.

Richard Baehr debunks all seven in, “New Orleans Myths: The Numbers Tell a Different Story,” an article appearing in this morning’s The American Thinker.

    Baehr does a great job.

Now I have some facts to present those who have been susceptible to the media’s bias. Of course, the media knows that first impressions are the lasting ones for most people. My only hope is that the media went so overboard by playing the race card that it will have discredited itself. I hope people will search elsewhere for the truth.

  2. orangeducks says:

It’s a pity we have to wade through several days of MSM BS before all the REAL facts can come to the surface and be assembled and presented.

This was an excellent, unbiased analysis of the short term efforts regarding Katrina.

Thanks Mr. Poe – it’s nice to receive INFORMATION for a change.

  3. Mark says:

Thank you, Richard, for your tireless effort to bring us the TRUTH!

I have been slowly drifting away from the mainstream media for many months now, including FOX News, and this complete media bias about Katrina has made me stay away completely from ALL major media on TV.

I will get my information from DNC and MBC, as the information is never filled with hype, just common-sense discussion from very smart, commonsensical people.

I love this blog. It is as integral a part of my life today as the air that I breathe.

Thank Goodness for MBC, and all bloggers, and respondents, like you!

From the bottom of my heart, and because our lives depend on it,

    Thank You

  4. Chris G says:

That was an outstanding piece! It’s incredible, but not surprising, that the left is more concerned with blame games and inciting race riots than helping.

Next, we will hear the enviromentalists demanding the city not be rebuilt and just “returned to nature” and other objections to rebuilding. And, even when N.O. is rebuilt, the city/county/state corruption level will most likely place the city in the exact same peril it was before the hurricane.

And the left will continue to blame anyone on the right they can.

  5. Sharikov says:

but of course…bbc and all the “progressives” can’t move beyond the 1960’s/70’s propaganda formula – and they have not yet accepted the reality (staring them right in the eyes) that they can no longer keep facts hidden from most people (particularly those who wish to make conclusions based on fact rather than concocted revisions of reality pumped out as “news”)

the “progressives” have modified and updated one of the concurrent tactics that goes along with the tired agitprop reality-revision, fact-avoidance blather (a.k.a. watergating) – and this can be termed as: “the side that wails loudest with most grossly unhinged emotions – via willing accomplice MsM – wins – no facts needed – just loud, non-stop, no-facts, emotional hollering, personal attacks, i.e. veiled subtle violent threats against anyone who dares question the leftists’ agendas/warped reality”

this is to keep everyone off balance, confused, and, at same time, send the message out – a la grieving mother Sheehan – that emotions trump all other factors – and can’t be called into question – even when counter to reality – at least this is what the leftists hope will happen – again (they won the 9-11 obfuscation campaign (so far… and believe they will get away with again)

Thanks to MBC and Mr. Poe – for finding/posting some reality and facts presented by Mr. Baehr (too bad the leftist MsM will never air such facts non-stop…)

  6. ralphbprice says:

Mr. Baehr’s article is fantastic. Of course the MSM won’t present this, it is the truth and they are allergic to the truth. (It gives them hives!)
Obfuscations, half-truths and inveigling…that is their bread and butter.

  7. janovic says:

Yes, Baehr’s does a fantastic job at arguing with Sharpton and pointing out the incompetence of Democrat office holders. As for explaining the incompetence of federal authorities, he fails.

To call “successful” an evacuation in which the poor and sick, 100,000 of them, are left behind, is absurd. To cheer the massive presence of the National Guard when the danger is past, is silly.

Katrina affected a number of states. It was a federal matter. Mayors and governors are at fault, as well as those whose specialty is Emergency Management, EM as in FEMA. If the governor of Louisiana refused to call out the Guard before Katrina struck, it should have been federalized. Nothing happened because everyone was on vacation. Or out to lunch.

New Orleans was flooded because the levee was not as high as planned and not protected as planned, not even for a Category 3 hurricane: “A corps plan to shore up the levees began in 1965 and was supposed to be finished in 10 years but remains incomplete. `They’ve never put enough money in to complete it,’ Parker said. He said the corps’ budget has been regularly targeted by the White House because public works projects are perceived as pork and aren’t considered `sexy.’

“`Go talk to the people who are suffering in New Orleans,’ Parker said. `Ask them do they think it’s pork.'” [Chicago Tribune, September 1]

Parker is a former Republican Mississippi congressman who headed the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from October 2001 until March 2002, when he was ousted after publicly criticizing a Bush administration proposal to cut the corps’ budget.

  8. J. Bargholz says:

I don’t think Katrina caused any lasting harm to President Bush but she sure drowned out Mother Sheehan. Even hurricane clouds have silver linings.

  9. Mark says:

    J. Bargholz,

Maybe the timing is more than just coincidence?

It took every bit of wind out of the Sheehan media sails.

    I’ll bet they are fuming!

  10. Rightminded says:

“Russert wanted to know who would be fired for the 48 hour delay.”

Certainly not any employee of FEMA or any other federal agency!—In my neck of the woods, I see local governments on access TV simulating and practicing responses to disasters on a pretty consistent bases.—A federal response is, and never should be considered a first responder!

If you are looking for people to fire, and establishing the bar at people who should have responded and did not at 48 hours or less, you must fire people at the local and state level—I’VE GOT SOME SUGGESTIONS, THERE BUGGING, FROG EYES!

P.S. Watch Russert as he hunches over his desk, he looks like an ugly, evil warlock.

  11. Richard Poe says:

Mr. Janovic writes: “If the governor of Louisiana refused to call out the Guard before Katrina struck, it should have been federalized.”

    Dear Mr. Janovic:

So you believe that federal officials are obliged to intervene when local officials fail to protect their citizens. Interesting philosophy. Let’s examine some of its more obvious implications.

Let’s take the Big Dig in Boston. It is leaking like a sieve. When it inevitably collapses, thousands of motorists will die. The entire tunnel needs to be demolished before this unspeakable catastrophe can occur. It is beyond repair.

Unfortunately, the Democrat machine in Massachusetts refuses to take this necessary and obvious step, because to admit the scope of their failure would cause a scandal. Investigators would then ask how the tunnel managed to pass inspection, when it was so obviously unsafe. Scores of inspectors must have been bribed. Investigators will also ask what happened to the billions of taxpayer dollars spent on the tunnel, since a great deal of this money obviously did not go where it was supposed to go — into the hiring of honest and reliable contractors, and the purchase of high-quality building materials.

The Massachusetts Democrats, led by Ted Kennedy, will never allow the closing of their beloved tunnel unless the federal government forcibly intervenes.

Do you support such federal intervention? And, should the tunnel collapse before the feds intervene, will you hold the federal government responsible for its failure to send armed troops into Massachusetts to arrest Ted Kennedy, occupy Boston and close down the tunnel?

  12. janovic says:

All that would need to be done would be for the federales to march down to Boston, close the tunnel, and indict a bunch of people. It has been done before.

Someone has to be in charge in an emergency. If the local officials are all stuck in park, or in stupid, there has to be someone to bang them gears up. In the special case of NO, since the locals were blacks, there should have been a very high black federal official to slap them silly.

    Unfortunately, Condi was buying shoes.

  13. Rightminded says:

janovic believes the Secretary of State should have rushed to NOLA because, as he said (which is true), “local Democrat officials were are all stuck in park, or in stupid…”

He believes this because Miss Rice is the highest ranking black person in our government, and NO is mostly populated by blacks.

    WOW!

  14. Richard Poe says:

Mr. Janovic writes: “All that would need to be done would be for the federales to march down to Boston, close the tunnel, and indict a bunch of people. It has been done before.”

    Dear Mr. Janovic:

You worded your sentence rather gingerly — so gingerly that your actual position on the Big Dig remains in question.

Let me ask again. Do you or do you not agree that the federal government needs to intervene immediately in Massachusetts and take control of the Big Dig from the corrupt Democrat machine, before thousands of people die?

  15. Richard Poe says:

Rightminded marvels: “[Mr. Janovic] believes this because Miss Rice is the highest ranking black person in our government, and NO is mostly populated by blacks. WOW!”

Why so surprised? Mr. Janovic is simply applying the principle of proportional representation by race — a cornerstone of Democrat ideology.

  16. janovic says:

On the Big Dig I absolutely agree: if it’s dangerous, it should be shut down, now. If the locals temporize, FEMA should intervene, before a disaster.

I didn’t know that liberal Democrats believe that you should send black cops into Harlem and Chinese cops into Chinatown. I thought they believe the opposite. I thought that liberals feel icky and filthy if perchance their mind were to recognize the difference between Loundeyes and Slanteyes. I don’t.

If Chinatown is flooded and the locals are having a Chinese firedrill, of course you send in some smart tough Chink to slap them awake. If Rice was busy shopping, the President could have made a call to Powell. If he was out to lunch, I am sure they could have found a black general in the U.S. Army to take charge of the situation, before the hurricane struck.

    Dear Mr. Janovic:

Racial insults are strictly forbidden on this blog.

Also forbidden on this blog are leftwing trolls who pretend they are conservatives.

Most unwelcome of all are leftwing trolls who pretend to be conservative and make racially offensive statements for the specific purpose of casting conservatives in a bad light. (Go here to see a classic example of this type of offender.)

In my view, Mr. Janovic, you are guilty on all three counts. But I will give you a chance to defend yourself and prove otherwise.

If you are guilty only of the first charge (making racially offensive statements), I will let you off with a warning and give you a second chance. But if you are guilty of counts two or three (attempting to impersonate a conservative, and doing a very bad job of it to boot), I will ban you at once.

Start talking, Mr. Janovic. The clock is ticking.

    – Richard Poe

  17. Richard Poe says:

Mr. Janovic writes: “I didn’t know that liberal Democrats believe that you should send black cops into Harlem and Chinese cops into Chinatown.”

Really, Mr. Janovic? Where have you been for the last forty years? Mars?

  18. janovic says:

Thanks for the warning. Actually I tend to be a libertarian, and I am not in any way pretending to be a conservative.

I am italian and slav. I normally use words liberals think derogatory for Italians and Poles, but I want to obey your house rules, so I won’t. Italians and Poles don’t mind at all such words, unless they be real proper and liberal.

I hope that the excellent U.S. Army expression “Chinese fire drill” is not banned as well. If it is, I promise never to use it again.

As for the black cops in Harlem, I used to live there, and a major problem was uncool white cops. Maybe things have changed under Bloomberg.

  19. Richard Poe says:

Mr. Janovic writes: “Actually I tend to be a libertarian…”

Sorry, Mr. Janovic. That argument is inadmissible. Most leftists nowadays call themselves libertarians. Camille Paglia comes to mind. A self-described “Roosevelt Democrat” who voted twice for the Clinton co-presidency, Prof. Paglia habitually describes herself as ideologically “libertarian.” In short, the term has been rendered meaningless.

Mr. Janovic also writes: “As for the black cops in Harlem, I used to live there, and a major problem was uncool white cops.”

So, after living in Harlem, you concluded that “uncool white cops” are a “major problem” for that community. Yet you say that you never knew “liberal Democrats believe that you should send black cops into Harlem…”

Are you saying that you never met any “liberal Democrats” in Harlem who expressed the opinion that white cops were “uncool” and that black cops would be more appropriate for their community?

  20. Mark says:

    Richard Poe,

    Outstanding debate!

Actually, there was no debate between you and old what’s-his-name, but you explain things in such a comprehensible, succinct way that a kindergartener could understand and accept it as the truth!

    Thank you!

  21. ShaneS says:

welp I’m not a “regular” to this site, in fact its my first visit here, however after reading through this posting and the subject article I felt the need to express my opinion.

The drunks are at the wheel and in danger of passing out.

ALL levels of government need to be considered when the final analysis of the response, or possible lack thereof, is finished.

this site is symptomatic of what I find so disgusting about the media, ALL the media. be it blogs, radio, press, television. Party politics.

“my side is right and your side did it”

blahbiddy blahblah. the dems do it, the reps do it, left and right do it, and every time I see or hear it all I can think of is two 5 year olds on a school ground claiming the other one dropped the ice cream.

In retrospect N.O. was a FUBAR from the word go. EVERYONE from city councilmen to the pres and everyone in-between was OBVIOUSLY unprepared to deal with this situation, the final outcome was inevitable not due to the forces of nature but from the gross incompetence of many levels of civil preparedness. Does this detract from the heroic acts of the many people that were there? Absolutely not. Does this situation demand that we all wait and take a good HARD, UNBIASED look at our response to this catastrophe so that when we’re faced with a similar situation we’re not caught with our pants down? Absolutely.

welp I’ve had my say, I’ll let ya’ll go back to throwing rocks.

  22. Richard Poe says:

ShaneS writes: “This site is symptomatic of what I find so disgusting about the media, ALL the media, be it blogs, radio, press, television. Students of moonbat behavior, please take note. Our friend ShaneS is employing the trolling strategy known as, “a plague on both your houses!”

Moonbats commonly employ this approach when their own behavior has become so shamefully indefensible that the only retort they have left is, “You’re just as bad as I am!”

We have seen this tactic before. See below.

Miss Nearing also wrote on an earlier thread: “I just don’t understand the near-pathology on the left and the right over Cindy Sheehan. … [T]his all Cindy, all the time obsession by all sides is, well, freaky.”

To which Richard Poe responded: “Note the similarity between these two statements. Both imply that left and right share equal blame in the promotion of Mother Sheehan. Both use variations of the word `freak’ or `freaky.’ It appears that the Central Committee has issued a new set of talking points. …
    ________________________________________________

Students of moonbat behavior are also urged to take note of ShaneS’s self-parodizing use of folksy, Southern dialect, as in the sentence, “Welp I’ve had my say, I’ll let ya’ll go back to throwing rocks.”

This is consistent with a new trend in trolling which your faithful correspondent first noticed among the phony conservative “seminar callers” who target Rush Limbaugh’s talk lines. In the last few months, the seminar callers have undergone a sudden demographic shift, such that nearly all of them now speak with deep Southern drawls.

I guess the great minds down at the Media Matters Action Network (MMAN) troll dispatch desk are hoping that if they flood Rush Limbaugh’s talk lines with enough Bush-bashing Southerners, maybe they can fool some people into thinking that real conservatives (that is, Southern conservatives) hate conservatism.

Being a moonbat is so complicated!

  23. ShaneS says:

im not a conservative, im not a liberal, but you go right ahead and put down to text whatever lets you sleep at night. I’ve noticed another trend amongst “debate pontiffs.” When they can’t attack the viewpoint, they attack the messenger.

Oh and just to clarify, for the record, I’m an apolitical upstate NY country living goodoleboy.

Yeah, let’s all focus on the names and blame instead of focusing on how to deal with this in the future. Very astute, trendy, and productive.

  24. Richard Poe says:

ShaneS writes: “Welp, I’ve had my say, I’ll let ya’ll go back to throwing rocks.”

    I rest my case.

ShaneS, it’s always good to meet a fellow upstater. I was born and raised in Syracuse, New York, and lived there till I was 26 years old.

As you know, we don’t say “y’all” in upstate New York.

Your pretensions to “apolitical” neutrality are as phony as your Southern accent. I’ll bet you did door-to-door canvassing last year for the Working Families Party… didn’t you?

  25. ShaneS says:

actually I picked up “ya’ll” from my stint in the Army as a loader on m60a3s and driver on m1a’s down in Ft Knox and Ft Carson, hanging out with all my fake conservative fellow tankers and apc/bradley drivers.

as far as assuming that Syracuse is representative of how the entire upstate region speaks I suggest YALL get over to the gloversville area, ie eastern upstate. I went to ES-M and Our Lady of Pompeii, was raised on Butternut St. just off Park ave. then moved to Minoa, and I too lived in Syracuse and the surounding burbs until my early 20s, and ya know what? theres more to life in upstate NY than the junction of Rt 81 and i90.

as far as my politcal affiliations lesse,
Im a firm believer in the right to bear arms
Im a firm believer that big oil and george are in bed together
im a firm believer that welfare is pandering to and helping to breed a lazy population more than its helping those that truly need it.
im a firm believer in a womans choice to an abortion.
etcetcetc, thats the problem with party politics and political parties in general.
many people have a mixture of beliefs that dont fit neatly into a specific party. but again lets attack the messenger right?

  26. Richard Poe says:

ShaneS writes: “…many people have a mixture of beliefs that dont fit neatly into a specific party.”

Correction. All people have beliefs which don’t fit neatly into a specific party. I didn’t say that you fit “neatly” into anything. Nobody does.

The question is, whose side are you on? Your words suggest that you favor the Democrats. Why? Because the Democrats are in full attack mode and you’re telling us to stand down and let them run roughshod over us. Great advice!

You never answered my question about the Working Families Party. Did you do door-to-door canvassing for them? And did you vote for Hillary in 2000?

P.S. Please use proper spelling and punctuation. Your illiterate scrawls reflect badly on all Central New Yorkers.

  27. Richard Poe says:

ShaneS writes: “Im a firm believer that big oil and george are in bed together…”

Spoken like a true libertarian [sarcasm].

Hillary Clinton is in bed with Wall Street investment bankers. People in that line of business buy and sell oil companies – and petroleum-based commodities – like so many bales of hay.

So what’s your point? Are you suggesting that George W. Bush has a greater personal stake in the price of oil than George Soros or Hillary Clinton?

If so, you’re dead wrong. Where did you get such an idea? It sounds to me as if you’ve been exposing yourself to too much “objective,” “non-partisan,” “apolitical” media.

  28. ShaneS says:

Im not on ANY “side” this is precisely the mentality I despise. I loathe ALL parties that engage in party politic useless rhetoric. but I think that was apparent in my first post and you chose to ignore it instead offering a “more likely” reasoning in the form of some nefarious plot of the leftists,
Just because someone acts as a jackass you should do the same? Like I said the media reminds me of two kids on a schoolground throwing rocks and calling each other names.
never heard of the “working familys party” and if they were to come to my door Id tell them the same thing I tell all the other solicitors that do so. to leave me alone.
no I didnt vote for Hillary..
Ive seen firsthand what war and chaos can do to people, Im involved with other folks that worked their asses off trying to alleviate the suffering of people both here and abroad from the ravages of war and disaster. Know what I find the most vulgar? The aftermath.
Specifically the aftermath of the pundits from ALL sides coming out with their knives sharpened in the others that take the bait. All the fingerpointing and name calling when they should be working together to clean up and prevent something awful from happening again.
I think this is the last bit of time Im going to waste on you. Life’s too short to play target for you. hope Y’ALL have a nice day.

  29. Madzionist says:

Richard, this guy is dumb as a rock… even by Moonbat standards. I say ban him for his unbearable illiteracy alone. He’s a moron wasting bandwidth.

  30. ShaneS says:

and ahh wait, didnt see the bit about hillary and oil.
yep sounds scummy. she been investigated for it?
know what else sounds scummy? enron and halliburton
and the involvment with the incumbants and those corporations.

  31. Richard Poe says:

ShaneS writes: “know what else sounds scummy? enron and halliburton and the involvment with the incumbants and those corporations.”

Oh yes, you’re apolitical, all right. A real middle-of-the-roader [sarcasm].

  32. Richard Poe says:

ShaneS also writes: “…didnt see the bit about hillary and oil. yep sounds scummy. she been investigated for it?”

Investigated for what? For associating with Wall Street investment bankers who buy and sell petroleum-based commodities? There’s no law against that. This is America, the land of free enterprise.

I thought you said you were a libertarian.

  33. J. Bargholz says:

    Shane S,

throwing rocks at EVERYBODY is your idea of a message?

The federal government isn’t responsible for what happened in New Orleans. Katrina smashed into more than one city, son. Only New Orleans slid into anarchy.

For someone that mouths paleocon, libertarian mumbo-jumbo, you place too much faith in the supposed nanny-state nature of the federal government. Why do you insist it should be held responsible along with the incompetents in New Orleans and the Louisiana governor’s office?

If you want political parties to stop bickering, send an e-mail to their respective party headquarters. Express your lofty contempt for the Republicans and the party of opposition. I hear both parties have opened offices in Fantasyland.

Hating everybody that disagrees with you is a pretty sad philosophy. It must be a real burden being right all the time.

  34. janovic says:

Joseph Suhayda, an emeritus engineering professor at Louisiana State University who has worked for the Army Corps of Engineers, said the corps simply didn’t have enough money to build the levees as high as the designs called for.

“The fact that they weren’t that high was a result of lack of funding,” he said, noting that part of the levee at the 17th Street Canal–where one of the breaches occurred–was 4 feet lower than the rest.

Maybe it is appropriate to blame both parties. Unless you prove that the engineer was lying to the Chicago Tribune.

  35. Rightminded says:

Camille Paglia voted for Clinton both times! WOW! I used to like her so… but I am getting old!

  36. Rightminded says:

    janovic Says:

“noting that part of the levee at the 17th Street Canal—where one of the breaches occurred—was 4 feet lower than the rest.”

I think it is time to get specific, and point out two things because I SIMPLY SMELL A “NUTRIA RAT” IN THAT NECK OF THE WOODS!

    (1) What failed were concrete floodwalls, not earth levees. Overtopping occurred, which caused scouring, or an eating away of the earthen support, which then caused the floodwall to fall.

    (2) The NO mayor, and the LA governor issued gag orders, while “W” has issued a call for an investigation.

I might be completely off base but, I have a hunch there is a reason why the term floodwall is not being used, and levee is.—ANY ENGINEERS OUT THERE, HAVE ANY THEORIES? —Could a floodwall not be that reliable even if it is built for a specific stress load? Could a Cat-3 hurricane, under certain conditions have toppled these walls, also?

The gag orders speak for themselves, as does the mayor saying, “there are mandatory evacuations in effect,” while the boo-ho governor says, “there is not.”—Ah! State and local disaster coordination at it’s best.

  37. J. Bargholz says:

    Jerkovic,

Joseph Suhayda didn’t have anything to do with the building of the levees. What makes him an expert in your opinion? Other than his hatred for Bush, of course.

  38. janovic says:

Joseph Suhayda speaking at U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations, June 30, 2004: “I am a coastal engineer and have had over 30 years experience dealing with coastal issues, particularly coastal erosion and flooding in Louisiana… For the last thirty years I have been working to develop solutions to these problems at Louisiana State University and as a consultant to several federal and state agencies.”

Typical. I can smell a commie engineer a mile away.

  39. peedoffamerican says:

Sounds like for thirty years his head’s been stuck up his butt!!! Good God man, the city is from 7 to over 20 feet below sea level, with a lake on one side, the gulf on the other and the Mississippi River run thru it. Do you actually think anything built by man could withstand such an onslaught of nature? If you answer yes, I have some nice ocean front property in Arizona at reasonable prices. Has plenty of sandy beaches. Want to buy?

  40. Rightminded says:

Ole’ Rightminded is working on it!

Q: How did the water get into the city?

***Some parts of the city were flooded by the initial hurricane.*** But the major sources of water appear to have come from breaches in canal walls. One was the 17th Street Canal, which is used for drainage and runs through New Orleans to Lake Pontchartrain on the city’s northern edge. A second breach was in a wall in the London Avenue Canal. There were also breaches in the wall of the Industrial Canal (also called the Inner Harbor Navigational Canal), on the east side of town.

Q: What is the difference between a floodwall and a levee, anyway?

The canals walls that broke are technically called floodwalls. They are made of concrete and steel, 6 to 10 feet tall, about a foot wide at the top and 2 feet wide at the bottom. They stand on top of an earthen base.

A levee is a broad mound, 50 feet or more wide at the base, that rises slowly to a broad crest at the top. You could easily walk or drive up the side of one. These are far more stable than floodwalls. Water can spill over the top and erode some of the levee, but it will still function. When a floodwall fails, it fails catastrophically.

    I DON’T KNOW, I”VE GOT TO GO, BUT THAT’S SOMETHING……….DEVELOPING!

  41. Richard Poe says:

ShaneS writes: “Im not on ANY `side’ this is precisely the mentality I despise. I loathe ALL parties that engage in party politic useless rhetoric.”

Pericles said: “Those who do not take part in the public affairs of a nation are worthless and useless to society!”

  42. Richard Poe says:

Mr. Janovic writes: “Someone has to be in charge in an emergency. If the local officials are all stuck in park, or in stupid, there has to be someone to bang them gears up. In the special case of NO, since the locals were blacks, there should have been a very high black federal official to slap them silly. Unfortunately, Condi was buying shoes.”

Rightminded responded: “[Mr. Janovic] believes this because Miss Rice is the highest ranking black person in our government, and NO is mostly populated by blacks. WOW!?

To which Richard Poe responded: “Why so surprised? Mr. Janovic is simply applying the principle of proportional representation by race – a cornerstone of Democrat ideology.”

Whereupon Mr. Janovic countered: “I didn’t know that liberal Democrats believe that you should send black cops into Harlem and Chinese cops into Chinatown.”

To which Richard Poe retorted: “Really, Mr. Janovic? Where have you been for the last forty years? Mars?”

Mr. Janovic continued: “I thought that liberals feel icky and filthy if perchance their mind were to recognize the difference between Loundeyes and Slanteyes. I don’t. If Chinatown is flooded and the locals are having a Chinese firedrill, of course you send in some smart tough Chink to slap them awake. “

To which Richard Poe replied: “Dear Mr. Janovic: Racial insults are strictly forbidden on this blog.

… Start talking, Mr. Janovic. The clock is ticking.”

Whereupon Mr. Janovic offered this defense: “I am italian and slav. I normally use words liberals think derogatory for Italians and Poles, but I want to obey your house rules, so I won’t. Italians and Poles don’t mind at all such words, unless they be real proper and liberal.”

Mr. Janovic also said, in his own defense: “As for the black cops in Harlem, I used to live there, and a major problem was uncool white cops.

To which Richard Poe responded (at 12:09 PM ET): “So, after living in Harlem, you concluded that “uncool white cops? are a `major problem’ for that community. Yet you say that you never knew `liberal Democrats believe that you should send black cops into Harlem…’

“Are you saying that you never met any `liberal Democrats’ in Harlem who expressed the opinion that white cops were `uncool’ and that black cops would be more appropriate for their community?”

IN RESPONSE, MR. JANOVIC FELL SILENT FOR MORE THAN NINE HOURS, THEN RETURNED UNDER COVER OF DARKNESS, AT 9:30 PM ET, TO WRITE THE FOLLOWING:

Mr. Janovic wrote: “Joseph Suhayda, an emeritus engineering professor at Louisiana State University who has worked for the Army Corps of Engineers, said the corps simply didn’t have enough money to build the levees as high as the designs called for. …”

…etc., etc., etc., blahbiddy blahbiddy blahbiddy blah…

Okay, Mr. Janovic. We got your point.

The Democrat regime which controls Louisiana is incompetent. Bush should have seen this four and a half years ago, when he first took office, and forcibly relieved them of command.

I couldn’t agree more. We must learn the lessons of Katrina.

In order to prevent future catastrophes, President Bush should immediately federalize all state and local jurisdictions currently under Democrat control and issue an executive order appointing competent Republican officials in their place.

Thanks for the advice, Mr. Janovic. We’re glad you stopped by.

Now it’s time for you to leave. Any commentator who refuses for nine hours straight to respond to a direct challenge from the moderator, under threat of banishment – then shows up after nightfall to post more propaganda under cover of darkness – is nothing more than a thief trying to hijack our bandwidth without paying for it.

Your posting privileges are revoked. Begone, sir. You are banned.

Richard Poe writes to ShaneS: “Pericles said: ‘Those who do not take part in the public affairs of a nation are worthless and useless to society!'”

Oh! Very sting response there, Richard! But you had to go and ban the poor fella before I got the chance to sink my authentic Southern teeth into him. Of course, you did save him from further embarassing himself. That kid was dumber than a bag of hammers.

  45. Richard Poe says:

RightWinger complains: “But you had to go and ban the poor fella before I got the chance to sink my authentic Southern teeth into him.”

Actually, the person I banned was Mr. Janovic, the faux “libertarian” from New York City. I have not yet banned ShaneS, the faux Southerner from upstate New York. He is on probation.

Please feel free to bite into ShaneS at will.

And please allow me to apologize, on behalf of all my fellow New Yorkers, for the disgraceful behavior these two have exhibited on this thread. We’re not all like that!

Just the ones who vote. 🙁

  46. RightWinger says:

ShaneS explains: “Im not on ANY “side? this is precisely the mentality I despise. I loathe ALL parties that engage in party politic useless rhetoric.”

So what is your solution to our problems, o learned country gentleman? That we should perhaps not have sides? That we should 1) All be on the same side or 2) Act individually and have completely diverse opinions?

As for option 1, that’s just downright ignorant. There have always been opposing factors in politics and opinion since the dawn of time, from Biblical examples of Moses and his brother Aaron at Mt. Sinai, to the Civil War, to the Israelis fighting amongst themselves over “withdrawal”. Without opposing opinions, there is never progress (and I mean real progress, as opposed to the left’s “progressive” movement).

And if you opt for door number 2, you are even more ignorant than I suspected. There is diversity in politics and opinion, and it is found within what some call “The Vast Right wing Conspiracy”. There is no diversity on the left, you silly country bumpkin!

ShaneS also states: no I didnt vote for Hillary.

I figure that would be right up your alley, what with the nanny-style big government socialism Hillary advocates.

ShaneS then asserts: I’ve seen firsthand what war and chaos can do to people, Im involved with other folks that worked their asses off trying to alleviate the suffering of people both here and abroad from the ravages of war and disaster.

Oh really? In what capacity do you and your “folks” work their asses of to alleviate suffering?

What do you know about war and chaos?

Have you served in our armed forces?

Have you watched your brothers and sisters in arms sacrifice themselves so selflessly for their country and the freedom of others?

Did you live in New Orleans or in Mississippi?

Did you have friends and family in the WTC on September 11th 2001? Were you in the towers?

Are you a firefighter who lost fellow firefighters on that tragic day?

Have you lived Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, Pol Pot’s Cambodia, Stalin’s Russia?

Have you ever lived in Red China or the USSR?

Have you ever watched your fellow Americans die in a strange country simply for being American?

I thought not. Don’t start with me on the “I know firsthand what chaos and war can do to people” crap. It’s people like you who want instant results without the cost of blood, sweat and tears, the things on which this great country was built. Don’t start with me.

The Learned Country Bumpkin also opines: ‘Know what I find the most vulgar? The aftermath. Specifically the aftermath of the pundits from ALL sides coming out with their knives sharpened in the others that take the bait. All the fingerpointing and name calling when they should be working together to clean up and prevent something awful from happening again.

You would know about finger pointing, I’m sure. You seem to be pretty good at it yourself. And though that third sentence (Specifically…) was a horrible raping of the English language, I understand what you meant. And I have yet to see someone on the right falsely accuse or attack someone on the left for this whole “fiasco”. If people want to work together, they would elect people with common sense (i.e. Republicans), the kind of people that like to make things work. People shouldn’t vote for blame throwers and senseless politicians like those produced by the pinko leftist establishment.

And in closing, Shane says: “I think this is the last bit of time Im going to waste on you. Life’s too short to play target for you. hope Y’ALL have a nice day.

What’s the matter Mr. S? Are facts too heavy a burden to bear for you? Does common sense impede your capacity to think?

I’m sorry that you have no sense and must make good ole boy country folk look so ridiculous. Maybe you are the kind that gives them that stereotype?

Also, proper grammar and pronunciation would really help if you were trying to be serious. And if you are so steeped in the country, why have you spelled y’all as “YA’LL”? This word is a conjunction of “you” and “all.” The letter “y” is taken from the word “you” and the whole word “all” is used.

Just a lesson in how to spell those good ole country words.
