Richard Poe to New York Times: “No more Times Square! Long live Giuliani Square!

“America’s Rabbi” Aryeh Spero kindly invited me to speak at the July 10 demonstration against The New York Times. In my speech, I proposed changing the name of Times Square to Giuliani Square. It recieved the name Times Square in 1904, when Adolph Ochs — then publisher of The New York Times and grandfather of current publisher Pinch Sulzberger — somehow persuaded the mayor to re-christen the square in honor of Ochs’ newspaper. Prior to 1904, it was called Longacre Square. Go here for a transcript of my speech (1), and here for a video (hat tip, Atlas Shrugs). (2) Many thanks to Blogmeister USA for the photo. (3)

Update 09.05.06: Here’s another video of my speech, shot from a different angle, which fightingtheleft.com uploaded to video.google. Sadly, some of my favorite lines have been chopped off at the end. Oh well. Go here for my (truncated) speech; and here for another shot of the crowd chanting “Giuliani Square! Giuliani Square!” after I finished speaking.
