The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) today pronounced itself “shocked, shocked” to discover that many churches, charities and sundry other tax-exempt organizations had the temerity to engage in electioneering during the 2004 campaign. Well, okay, the IRS didn’t exactly use the term, “shocked, shocked”. It described the situation as “disturbing”. All the same, its disingenuous ejaculation calls to mind that of the rascally Captain Renault in the 1942 film Casablanca. (via Breitbart.com) (1)

Why the IRS would find these practices “disturbing” today when it never found them particularly noteworthy in the past is puzzling, but I gather from these utterances that some people are going to be audited and I presume they will be the wrong people, as usual.
